The harts of the forest are greatly prized for their sweet meat and soft but sturdy pelts, but they are canny creatures and not easily run to ground by unskilled hunters. Although peaceful and reticent by nature, a hart will defend itself sturdily when cornered, and many a doughty hunter has lost his life in a moment of carelessness before the flashing hooves and antlers of a hart at bay.
