Regarded by the ignorant as large fish, dolphins are, in fact, a whole new order of sea creature, for they are warm-blooded and give birth to their young alive. Sailors consider it great bad luck to kill a dolphin accidentally (and unthinkable to kill one on purpose), for dolphins have been known to drive off sharks and even help drowning men stay afloat. They are usually found in family groups of six to a dozen.
