Typically, the term noto killer, short for "Notoriety Killer," refers to someone who waits for a character to "go gray," due to committing a "criminal" action such as looting a blue corpse or healing a red character or attacking a blue, and then attacks them.

Some noto killers have been known to use exploits or hacks to force another character to go gray, or to make a player think that the noto killer is gray when in fact he is not.

The term is a legacy of the old notoriety system, that was replaced by the reputation system. Back then, it was easier to acquire fame by killing other player characters, and thus the term also referred to someone who would seek out high-fame player characters to kill.
