This item can be solved to yield a reward. The puzzle board is found in the Underworld at coordinates 52° 23'N 17° 47'W. You must navigate a perilous trapped hallway to reach the small room where a strongbox resides. Upon discovering the trapped hallway, your character will freeze and display a warning that "You are filled with a sense of dread and impending doom!" In order to more easily navigate the hallway, you may choose to enter the first room to your east containing the golden compass. With the compass in your backpack, and while standing on the correct tile, it will guide you through the safest path. Upon reaching the midpoint in the hallway, you will see a second room containing the strongbox. Opening the strongbox will give you a board. You may only have one at a time. Double-clicking the board presents you with the puzzle menu. You have 1800 seconds (30 minutes) to solve before the puzzle expires and board vanishes. You can only attempt this puzzle once per day.
- Apply - Submits your answer. If correct the board vanishes and the prize appears in your backpack. If incorrect the menu closes. You can open and try again.
- Cancel - Resets the puzzle back to the original starting points
- Log Out - Closes the puzzle menu
To select a row for modification, press the black dot in the top left section. It will become light indicating that is the row you currently have selected. Press the arrow on either side to move the row up or down.
Puzzle Rules
- You must solve the puzzle in exactly or fewer moves than the "Command Functions"
There are a few basic rules that the puzzle follows. While there may be more, these initial rules will help you to solve the puzzles on your own if you do not wish to use the provided solutions.
- Each row consists of 1, 2, 3, or 4 "pegs." A bar is considered 4 pegs.
- If you move a row up into another filled row, it will add its pegs to that row; if you exceed 4 total pegs, the rows will simply swap places.
- If you move a row down into another filled row, it will subtract the lesser row from the greater row (so if you have a bar and you move it down into a row of 2, you will have 2 pegs left over; if you have a single peg that you move down into a row of 2, you will have 1 peg left over).
- A green bar consists of 2 red and 2 blue pegs (but can be built of 4 green pegs).
- Two green pegs consist of 1 red and 1 blue peg (but can also be built of 2 green pegs).
- A blue bar consists of 2 green and 2 red pegs (but can be built of 4 blue pegs).
- Two blue pegs consist of 1 red and 1 green peg (but can also be built of 2 blue pegs).
- A red bar consists of 2 blue pegs and 2 green pegs (but can be built of 4 red pegs).
- Two red pegs consist of 1 green and 1 blue peg (but can also be built of 2 red pegs).
- Only even numbers may be moved up or down into an empty row:
- If you move a bar up or down into an empty row, it will keep 2 pegs in the row you moved it from, and place 2 pegs into that empty row (the pegs will be of the colors listed above, not the color of the bar).
- If you move a row of two up or down into an empty row, it will keep 1 peg in the row you moved it from, and place 1 peg into that empty row (the pegs will be of the same colors listed above, not the original color of the two pegs).
- Image below shows how colors are spliting.
- You may build a bar or a row of 2 pegs out of its corresponding colors:
- A red bar may be made of 4 red pegs or 2 blue and 2 green pegs. Two red pegs may be made of 2 red pegs or 1 blue and 1 green peg.
- A blue bar may be made of 4 blue pegs or 2 red and 2 green pegs. Two blue pegs may be made of 2 blue pegs or 1 red and 1 green peg.
- A green bar may be made of 4 green pegs or 2 blue and 2 red pegs. Two green pegs may be made of 2 green pegs or 1 blue and 1 blue peg.
These rules will be clarified some if more are discovered, but this basic knowledge should help you to solve most puzzles.
