Coal Armor refers to armor created from Coal, which is quite rare and thus generally considered valuable.

An original set of coal armor

Coal was one of the gift items included in the 1997 "Naughty" Christmas Bag during the Holiday 1997 season. These particular bags were awarded to negative-Karma players. Coal ingots were created by smelting the coal and some players were able to collect enough of these ingots to create sets of armor. Shortly after, the developers stopped allowing players to make coal color (hue 1109) from these ingots. Any armor made from old coal ingots will turn the standard silver color.

Coal ingots are hue 1109, which are slightly lighter than the shade of color seen on Shadow ingots (hue 2406).
