In addition to more normal methods, Plague Beast Lords can be slain by casting the Paralyze spell on them, then using an edged object (scissors or an edged weapon) on them. This cuts them open, and a puzzle opens up. The puzzle is complex and involves cutting open certain organs, while stemming the flow of blood from others.
Solving this puzzle gets you a Mutation Core. The Cores were used during the climax to the Plague of Despair scenario, and for the moment are merely decoration.
