The ability to steal special "rare" items from Monsters was introduced by Publish 57. Aside from the items the monster carries around with it, it's also possible to sometimes retrieve things that aren't obtainable by simply slaying the beast.
Success is notified by the system message "You successfully steal a special item from the creature!", along with a magical chime noise.
These items can only be taken from monsters in Dungeons located in Felucca, or from monsters that are part of any Champion Spawn. Your character requires at least a Grandmaster level in Stealing. A monster may only be robbed once in it's lifetime.
Supposedly, the odds of success are:
- GM Stealing: 2%
- 100.1 to 110 Stealing: 5%
- 110.1 to 119.9 Stealing: 8%
- 120.0 Stealing: 10%
With a bonus depending on the monster's fame:
- 0% below level 15
- 1% below level 25
- 2% below level 35
- 3% below level 40
- 5% at level 40
(Where fame scales from 0 at level 0 to 30,000 at level 40. Unknown as to whether the level progression is linear).
In theory, a Legendary thief stealing from a level 40 monster would have a 10% + 5% = 15% chance of obtaining a special item. Note that not even the Harrower has this much fame; likely only high-end Paragon creatures do.
In practise, a Legendary thief stealing from just about anything seems to have a 70%-80% chance, with a ~20-30% chance of getting a non-rare and a ~10% chance of failing completely. The real odds are as yet unknown.
Items
These items are all un-insurable and un-stackable. You may not use a Balm/Lotion while under the effects of any other Balm/Lotion.
