Background history

Early life

He grew up in Jhelom and was the son of a smugglar named Bethany the Hag. She often concealed her actions using voodoo magic. She was later accused of being a witch and sentanced to burned at the stake for it. She left her boy as she had fled the city to leive her days on an island just off the shores of Jhelom. This left Brock an orphan by the age of twelve. He began to run a gang of thieves. One day he happened to steal from the wrong person, the person was actually a demon named Hapelitch. The demon thought it would be delightful to toture the lad by burning tattoos into his flesh and then releasing the boy. The demon would then later tell secrets to any who would listen of a boy who possesed tattooed maps to secret dark treasures. Brock did his best to get other tattoos over the tattoos the demon gave him to hide them and would then kill the tattoo artist who helped him. Still the true maps would glow in the moonlight. He made it a habit to always carry a lantern that would be brighter than the moonlight to hide himself.

By the age of 17 he couldn't take all the running and hiding when Brock decided to steal a boat and sail far far away. The Boat he stole was owned by Dante Darheart and while making a last pit stop in Jhelom to say goodbye to his mother. Instead of finding his mother he ran into Dante Darheart who offered him a deal to work as a thief, smuggler, and pirate of sorts to ensre his mother's saftey. Unknown to Brock, Bethany was quite safe as she had been a long time friend with benefits of Dante's. However, even she didn't know of Dante's maniplulation of her son.

A Pirate's Journey Begins

Unkown to Brock for many years Dante was in fact a vampire and a prime agent of Hapelitch. Brock eventually tripped up while robbing a bank and was arrested and sent to the Yew Prison. He had only spent a year for his 20 year sentence when a mass prison break occurred. The motley crew was lead by Black Tom Vane and Nathan Hawk. They started off by hijacking ships, odd heists, and then eventually to piracy. They first based their operations out of Buc’s Den. Shortly after they were driven out of the area by the North Brittanian Trading Company. Dante appeaered once again and told Brock of a deserted town on the frozen Dagger Isle called Avernus. They used an old ruined cathedral once devoted to the Avatar as their hide out. Dante lent the crew enough money and resources to renovate the cathedral into The Dead Man’s Hand Casino. It appeared as if the gang was semi-legitimate. The casino brought business to the town and soon it was bustling. One night Brock found out why Dante showed the rare display of generousity. It turned out Dante had been ghouling the patrons of the casino. He was then sending these ghouls to Magincia to help the demons to destroy the city and collect it’s treasures. One night when Dante was feeding a young man his blood Brock walked in. Dante knocked the man unconcious and captured Brock and forced him to drink his blood thus began ghouling him as well. It wasn’t until Brock was fully ghouled by Dante that Brock fully understood what Dante was. When Brock thought to warn Tom and Nathan Dante ripped his tongue out. From then on Brock thought it best to keep his mouth shut.

A Frozen Sea, A Pirate's Hell

Saddly, the fun the Brutal Buccaneers and Dante did not last long. A regiment of Knights from Inerthia as well as a few members of the True Britannian Faction led by the Good Dante Darkheart. They were following up on a lead by a slain ghoul from Magincia that had left plans signed by the Evil Dante written on the back of a Dead Man's Hand Casino playing card. When the Knights arrived on the island one evening they were greeted by the Wintermaw Orcs and a handful of shambling dead from Deciet led by Elms Grimswood and Brok'Orba. The orcs and undead were beaten back. That morning the knights took rest at the Avernus Inn. There the Avernus Watch told the knights about the shady dealing happening on the north of the island. The Good Dante knew what would have to be checked out next, the casino. However, before the knights reassembled to investigate the north side of the island the Brutal Buccaneers had been tipped off. Tom (Black Tom Vane) and Nathan made off on their own ships never to be seen again. Rumors abound that they had been caught up in a magical storm of sorts. Brock and Mary Wartex had packed Dante and Dante's mentor Skry onto the very ship Brock once stole from Dante years before. Before setting sail Brock set the Casino and the other buildings used by the the Brutal Buccaneers leaving a smoldering pile of rubble left to investigate.

Out of the Cold and into the Fire

Brock and Mary Wartex sailed the ship to a bay between Cove and Britain. Dante enjoyed the new location as he felt it would provide a more metropolitan area for him to hunt in. Dante found a home along the coast on the outskirts of Britain and killed most of the family and turned a young woman, Marie DeCosteau, into a vampire as well. He tasked Brock and Mary with renovating the home into a tavern and brothel with a crypt below for Dante and Skry to live in during the day. Within about two weeks Brock had made most of the renovations. Unfortunatly, Dante alowed his Beast within take over more and more often. Dante destroyed the tavern one night. Brock had enough and so had Dante's other minions. Marie DeCosteau tricked a rampaging Dante onto The Ceini and had Brock tow it out to sea. Marie DeCosteau ordered Brock and Mary Wartex's leave of service until a cure could be found. In Brock's leave he made his way back to Jhelom to his his mother (Bethany the Hag). She instructed him that he would need to kill and drink the blood of a pooka, a certain type of fey creature. He spent the next few years tracking down such a creature.

Strangest Tides

His quest took him, his mother (Bethany the Hag), and Mary Wartex across all the lands of Sosaria. The quest began in Malas by going to the several Yew trees that Pixies lived in. They tricked him to go to Sanctuary. It came as a suprize to the crew when denziens of Sanctuary attacked them. A Changeling thought it would be amusing to send the Brock to a fey enchanted world while Mary and Bethany made their way out of Sanctuary. This is where details get dodgy at best even from Brock's point of view. So it is best to skip this part. What is known is that when Brock appeared a month later naked clinging to the West Serpent Pillar. He had apparently found his pooka and was now sporting a Silver Tougne. The tougne is not without its curse as Brock now only speaks in riddles and/or lies. He frequently says that the only true statement he can make is "I'm a liar" with a wry grin.

A Return to the Simple Life

The crew happily lived out of Jhelom smuggling goods into the city and on occasion took control of other vessels. One evening they ran into Marie DeCosteau who said she had finally found a way to bring Dante back from the edge of his madness. Marie DeCosteau took them to a bay to the West of Yew. Not far inland were the infamous Yew Crypts where Marie had been housing Skry and other artifacts important to Dante. Also living in the crypts with Marie and Skry were the wraith Elms Grimswood and the orc Brok'Orba. The plan revolved around summoning Hapelitch to heal her champion Dante. The ritual took several days to prepare for and still three nights to finally summon the demon. When Brock finally saw the demon after all these years he begrudgingly accepted his fate that he much if not all of his life had been predetermined by this being. Hapelitch easily brought back some of Dante's sanity. Dante thanked his deity and immediately his usual wheels began turning.

Still he liked the selcusivness the crypts (The Ruins of Rythen Grove ) provided yet wanted to present a more public facad to lure in his potential victims since he knew it would be hard to show his face in public. He made Bethany that public face. He had her commission construction of a harbor near where Brock's ship was anchored. Most of the construction was done by Brock and Mary. But the most important portion was done by Brok'Orba which was a series of tunnels that run between the crypts and the harbor. The harbor was named Deepwater Horizon Harbor and soon became a small hub for smuggling operations. Brock's job was to oversee smuggling operations. Mary's job was to bartend. Marie's apparent job was to act as the owner of the harbor, though she usually danced for the patrons. Elms' job was to grow and produce the drugs for the patrons. Brok'Orba's job was to do what he does best, create havoc, by raiding rival smuggling crews. Brok'Orba would also raid Brock's ships when the shipments were insured as to double the bounty of the goods.

The crew has operated in like this for about two years now as of RL 18-Apr-2011 or UO 32-Nov-381.

Typical Skills

Like many of Darkheart's character Brock is fairly complex and as such is played by more than one character to be able to sufficiently use certain skills. The follow is not only a list of skills but some explaination as to why.

1 Swordsmanship

2 Tactics

3 Hiding

4 Stealth

5 Cartography

6 Detect Hidden/Remove Trap

7 Lockpicking

This version is the treasure hunting version and the version Darkheart usually plays as. Darkheart's like to play this version most because the play style of this skill set is very relaxed yet requires some thought as to where to go next and how to avoid dying rather than just kill everything in sight.

1 Swordsmanship

2 Tactics

3 Archery

4 Anatomy

5 Magery

6 Necromancy

7 Spirit Speaking

This version is played by Darkheart second most. This version was initially created for hunting and PvP and due to the less than piratey nature of the skill set further back story was needed and thus came about the evolution from timid low leve pirate to imposing smuggler fleet commander that he is today. Also it could be assumed that the magery and necromancy skills came from his mother.

1 Swordsmanship

2 Tactics

3 Archery

4 Anatomy

5 Stealing

6 Hiding

7 Stealth

This was the original Brock created for use with in Angry Mob which was meant to be a guild for "extras." Darkheart felt the best way to be an extra was to use a disguse kit so he worked up the stealing. Brock was later being used in factions to take town sigils in the later incarnations of Darkheart's "Citizen Guilds" that frequently joined factions.

Brok'Orba

Brok'orba is character played by Darkheart on the Catskills shard.

General Information:

Full Name: Brok'orba

Guild/ Organization Affiliation: Guild: Citizens of Yew, Shadow Clan Orcs, Bloodmun Clan, Citizens of Umbra, Wintermaw Orcs

Title: Orc Chieftan, Defiler(Minax), Servant(Shadowlords), Little One Eye, Old One Eye, and The Dead Orc.

Alignment: Chaotic Evil

Ship Name: The Lusk

Appearance:

Apparent Age: For those that can decern orc ages he looks to be quite old due to the pigment in his skin

Race: Orc

Height: 5' 6" short

Weight: 215lbs

Build: Slightly overweight but muscular. Though still small for his age by orc terms.

Hair Color: None

Eye: Yellow

Skin Tone: Very dark green but almost black in some areas indicating he is very old

Distinguishing Marks: A latice work of scars cover his body. On the left side of his chest is what looks to be a broken spear staff that sticks out about an inch and his flesh has healed around it. On his back on the oposite side is the other end of where the spear was broken off and only protrudes about an inch as well, his skin has heal around the staff as well. On his right arm are several arrows heads that have been imbedded into his flesh for years. Even with the reminants of such tremendous wounds he is not hindered in any apparent way. The most distrugished mark he bears is his missing eye which has been replaced by a piece of crafted blackrock. He has a handful of earings in his ears but they frequently get ripped out in battle.

Usual Demeanor: Once a low level timid orc he has become an imposing force to be reckonned with.

Early Life

Brok'orba was born the runt of a litter yet ultimately grew into one of the oldest and most feared Orcs living today. Shortly after becoming a full member of the Shadow Clan he had traumatic accident. While running through the woods with his spear he tripped and poked his eye out, leaving him forev afraid of sharp objects. The other Orcs laughed and made fun of his injury. He left the clan and wandered the world for decades.

A New Clan

He eventually made his way to Trammel and found a new clan that reluctantly accepted him. Still he remained a low ranking member until a chance encounter with Dante Darkheart (Evil). Brok'orba at first demanded tribute. Dante Darkheart (Evil) beat Brok'orba to the ground and forced a small crafted piece of blackrock into Brok'orba's empty eye socket. Brok'Orba heard screams and evil whispers and struggled to free himself of Dante's grasp. Dante told the orc to listen to the voices as they will guide him to greatness. Brok'orba began to relax as the voices melded into one, Elms Grimswood's. The Eye once belonged to Elms Grimswood in his life and now in death it was one of the last remaining objects linking Elms Grimswood to this world. A "fetter" is what those in the trade of the dark arts would call the eye. But none of that mattered Brok'orba, all he heard was whisperings of cruelty beyond that of what normal orcs would call cruel. Brok'orba returned to his tribe and beat other orcs into submission. Within a month he had used fear to rule the clan. Some followed him out of fear. Others left the clan in fear. And those that made their fear known were used to cause more fear in those that stayed. A favored tactic Brok'orba used was to crush the arms and legs off other orcs and then throw them into water while they were still alive. Other times he would pour hot lead down a disobident orcs mouth. he would cut gashes into the sides of stomaches and shove the hands of that same orc in the gashes. Tie the arms and let the wounds heal over the hands thus encasing the victims' hand inside their own bellies. After a while he learned how to control the dead. He then began making an orcs' own skeleton dance out of ones' own body. Elms Grimswood would cackle with delight in Brok'orba's mind. Brok'orba considered Elms Grimswood his only true friend. Thus when Elms Grimswood said it was time to move on Brok'orba listened.

A Cold Heart

Dagger Isle was the destination Elms Grimswood instructed Brok'orba to go. Brok'orba sailed their on a small raft. When he arrived there he ran into a new clan, the Wintermaw Clan. Brok'orba quickly beat their leader into a pulp and ate his heart securing his possition as the new chieftan. He built a small fort atop some ruins on the Southwest end of the isle. Again he ruled through fear. But also Dagger Isle is home to thousands of long dead warriors which also allowed Brok'orba to keep his status. He even beat a large feral polar bear into submission and began riding it when the clan went to raid the small town of Avernus. Often times Brok'orba had control of the entire southern part of the island. One evening a ship full of knights landed on Brok'orba's shore. The slaughtered most of the clan by dawn. Brok'orba and his polar bear managed to maim, injure, and kill a handful of the knights before the polar bear was fatally wounded and Brok'orba suffered enough wounds that he had to retreat. Elms Grimswood left Brok'orba's mind and left to warn Dante that the knights would soon be at his door step. As Dante and the Brutal Buccaneers lit their homes on fire Brok'orba fled to the ice cave at the northern tip of the isle. The he ate his polar bear and healed his wounds. To this day he wears the polar bear's pelt as a cape. With Avernus destroyed Brok'orba had no one else to fight with and knew things would not be as much fun. He constructed a new raft and set sail for the mainland once more.

Champion of the Arena

Brok'orba landed on a shore just north of Buccaneer's Den and found a moongate in the south. It's was shiny and as he walked towards it Elms Grimswood whispered to him to pass through it. After he stepped through the gate he was transported to Umbra. There he was greeted by Dante. Dante led Brok'orba to an arena just on the outskirts of Umbra. Dante told Brok'orba that whole crowds of patrons would come and pay tribute to Brok'orba here. Brok'orba was excited about the idea. Brok'orba was even given a cell to call his own. Although Brok'orba was little more than a gladiator slave he enjoyed every minute that he inflicted pain on those brought to him in 'his' arena. Brok'orba lived happily like this for several years slaughtering any to step foot in his arena.

All Things are not Meant to Last

Eventually Dante grew bored of the City of Necromancers and decided to move closer to the the greater metropolitan area of Britain. Dante released Brok'orba but Brok'orba did not want to leave. Brok'orba decided to stay but with out Dante to promote the fights the arena fell out of service and Brok'orba eventually began to wander the world once more.

Brok'orba eventually made his home at the Cove Orc Fort and while he had plenty of opponents to brawl with they were not like him and did not possess the decades of malice and cruelty that he did. After years of missing the whispers of Elms Grimswood the whispers came again. This time they told him to move on again. He made his way to the Yew Crypts where he ran into others of his past and a few new faces. He was tasked with digging a tunnel from the crypts to the coast. As a reward he was given a large ship that he remodeled and renamed The Lusk. He now sails the ship raiding any ship he can when at sea and brawls with just about anything he runs into on land.

Brok'orba has been living like this since UO 52-June-356

Mary Wartex

Mary Wartex is character played by Darkheart on the Catskills shard.

Early Life

Born in Vesper to a mother who died in child birth and a fisherman for a father. Because her father was out to sea most of the time she was given to the local orphanage where she lived until the age of thirteen when she started running with a rough crowd. For another three years she remained on the run. While hiding on a ship as a stowaway the ship was commandeered by a band of pirates who sailed for Dante. The pirates brought the girl to Dante who decided he would turn her into his protoge.

A Pirates Life

Dante used her to run errands during the day. Still Brock remained the lead when running such operations. During one such errand (robbing a bank) Brock was caught by the town guards and yet Mary managed to appear innocent enough and the guards let her go with a sizable amount of loot. Brock Blackheart had the opportunity to cut his sentence down if he revealed his partner. Due to fear of Dante (Evil) he did not reveal Mary as his accompis. As a reward for not selling Mary out Dante ensured two other notorious pirates, Black Tom Vane and Nathan Hawk were convicted of crimes and sent to that same prison. Dante then sent Elms Grimswood to whisper plans of escape to Black Tom Vane. Of course Tom would later insist the idea was all his own. Dante even had Mary waiting with a small ship waiting for the breakout to take them to Buc's Den
