Chief Paroxysmus is a Peerless found in the Palace of Paroxysmus dungeon introduced with the Mondain's Legacy expansion. It appears to be based on the grotesque crime lord Jabba the Hutt, from the Star Wars films. It "eats" pets and summoned creatures, thus restoring itself to full health almost instantly, even from near death. It leans heavily on poison-based attacks.
- A gigantic king, ruling from the underworld has returned to the surface bringing the four D's with it - Death, disease, disruption and disillusionment. His breath kills all flora and fauna in his wake. His skin leaks poison, his heart is pure ice. Everything in his path dies.

Abilities
- Has a Lethal Poison area hit, which seems to affect everyone on the same screen. Mages are advised to keep the spell Arch Cure ready. Orange petal offer absolutely no protection against this special attack.
- He summons his targets to him on a regular basis.
- He "eats" summons and pets, refreshing him to full health even from being near death. This can include mounts when you dismount or die.
- His melee attacks seem to often poison the target.
- He is found at first with three other creatures that are smaller, and less dangerous, versions of himself.
Strategy
- Conventional wisdom holds that cross-healing melee fighters are best. All character types are equally subject to frequent poisoning from the area poison effect, and ranged characters suffer from being forced into melee combat by the special 'teleport to him' ability and then killed by powerful melee attacks. Cross-healing allows the poison to be cured quickly and easily using bandages. And of course the teleporting won't bother melee characters either.
- DON'T take pets (for reasons above). You're a tamer? Leave Rover at home and stick to supporting/healing your group-mates.
- Ethereal Mounts are OK (and useful for keeping away from this slow mover) because they aren't around to be eaten when you are dead/dismounted. Chargers of the fallen are also OK. A normal mount can work if a) you don't die (luckily Paroxysmus has no dismount attack), or b) when you die, while still dead you log out and back in very quickly, causing your pet to hopefully disappear before being eaten. However, if you get disconnected, say goodbye to all that damage you did.
- Archers can work, but not by doing the normal "archer dance". Stay closer than you normally would, lest he teleport you to him and break you in half.
- Mages doing direct damage can be useful, but mostly mages should stick to healing the melee fighters. If you are safely high on hp, try not to panic when you are hit by the poison effect. Break the golden rule of first-aid: cure those who need it most first (instead of yourself). Mages are best used to cast arch cure on the group while the dexxers are cross healing. This allows for the bandies that go off to healing dmg rather than the posion. Have one mage on the opposite side of the island as a rez station if you have enough people in your party.
- Provocation can be useful at the beginning (with max skill and a slayer/exceptional instrument) to force Paroxysmus into fights with his helpers.
- Mages can also hit and run with explosion, and keep Fire Fields/Energy Fields up.
- Compared to the special abilities of other bosses, like the Monstrous Interred Grizzle's slowing effect, the area poison isn't that bad - you can pretty much negate it just by taking a lot of greater cure potions.
Keys
- Corrosive Slimes have the skull, torso, and legs. The most effective method for gathering these "smaller" keys is to send down a pair of stealthers to "whack and hide" the corrosive slimes. You can also hunt corrosive slimes in the upper part of the dungeon where it is not too dangerous, near the entrance. You usually have to kill a lot of slimes to get all 3 keys. Each time you kill a slime, your weapon will decrease in durability, so you might want to take a spare weapon for slime killing - or use pets/summons to do the dirty work.
- Putrifier Spleen from Putrefier. This tough monster goes down easily with a tamer and a bard. This key is tiny, and a dark red colour, so it is rather hard to see.
- The keys are dropped into a cauldron found on the far eastern end of the dungeon, just past the point at which the rivers of acid become instant death instead of merely damaging.
- The keys are exchanged for an ointment which when double clicked can be rubbed on your body, thus preventing you from the instant death of the lake of acid, and enabling you to walk across and enter the Chief's Island.
