With the introduction of the
Mondain's Legacy Expansion came twelve new base weapon classes:
While they could be Crafted in the same way as most other standard weapons, also added to the crafting list were "magical" versions, four per item. These required special Resources & Recipes (each also introduced with the expansion) but came with one or more "guaranteed" Item Properties.
In this way, crafters with Runic Tools could create weapons with more properties then usual, or produce intensities outside the ranges that were normally possible.
For example, a Valorite Runic Hammer can impart a Defense Chance Increase bonus of up to 15% (at 100% intensity). By crafting a Twinkling Scimitar (a Radiant Scimitar with an additional 6% bonus), that limit goes up to 21% - and every weapon created is sure to have at least a 6% DCI.
As another example, a set of Heartwood Runic Fletcher's Tools will usually give four properties to a bow. If you craft a Lightweight Shortbow (a Magical Shortbow which always has the Balanced property, effectively making the bow one handed), you'll typically end up with a five-property item. Creating a Slayer Longbow (the enhanced version of the Elven Composite Longbow) can result in a bow with two Slayer properties attached to it.
The magical crafting set has it's faults. The additional properties tend to be very weak (there's little point in creating them without the use of runics), and the weapon selection is limited. Elven Machetes, for example, are seldom seen in battle due to the Special Moves attached to them.
The Butcher's War Cleaver, on the other hand, is well loved by Leather collectors.
Aside from the ten Mondain's Legacy weapons, Rings and Bracelets were also granted magical versions. As there are no Runic Tools available for Tinkers, their Item Properties are somewhat stronger and tend to be randomised. As a trade off for this they require large amounts of Gems to produce.
- Note: The Bone Machete could also be considered a "Magical Craftable", however it requires no "hard to find" resources and is more of a key then a weapon.
